This makes the iron significantly more effective, especially on large pads with 14 and 12 gauge wire for battery leads etc.   The heating element is able to immediately compensate for the temperature drop in the tip as the heat transfers to the solder joint. This also makes larger tips less necessary, as the tip itself does not need to store as much heat to maintain temperature. Night and day difference compared to traditional irons with separate tips and heating elements. Iron to heats up from cold, to melting solder in only a few seconds!
