These Torah finials, used to decorate and protect the Torah rollers in a precious coat of sterling silver, are designed to represent the columns of the temple based upon the following text which is cut into the top of each finial in Hebrew: “He set up one column on the right and named it Jachin, and he set up the other column on the left and named it Boaz.” As it is said that a pomegranate contains 613 seeds, a skirt of pomegranates hangs from the crown to remind us of the 613 mitzvot found in the Torah.
